In the next chapter they walk into Saint Arbucks and everyone except the old woman is frozen in time. There's also a strange quality to the air. It smells old and musty. There are also small particles of light floating around like dandelion seeds in the air.
If you end up using my idea for Mac to chase the mysterious figure spying on them, I think that Mac should come soooo close to catching him, but he rounds a corner and runs into none other than Peter who it turns out received a note to arrive at this exact spot; at this exact time. Not a second earlier or later. I imagine that someone involved in this conspiracy (whatever you want to call it) knew that the chase would happen and conspired for Peter to be in a spot where they knew Mac would run straight into him.
