Today, I'm talking Blue.

There is nothing like a good wooden roller coaster. As someone who grew up at Kings Island in Mason, I firmly believe this. While a lot of people these days are discovering roller coasters through steel beasts of massiveness (we're talking about you, Millennium Force), nobody should forget that it all started with the good old woodie. Think about roller coasters, and you get those two pictures. Before the 1960's, that was not the case at all -- all roller coasters were like the wooden coasters of yesteryear (and even today).

Kings Island has built its reputation from the beginning on their wooden coasters. I considered the progression growing up -- you would start with the small Beastie, moving on to the Racer and then to the uber-scary Beast. (I always freaked out as a kid when my mom would ride the Beast; I even remember asking my dad "Is she gonna come back???")

While KI is known for its woodies, CP is known for its steel coasters -- Gemini, Magnum, Millennium, Top Thrill. So, needless to say, I knew I would be going to someplace completely different than what I was used to the first time I went to the Point. And then, as we arrive at the Point, there is this little wooden coaster right in front of the park, all painted a light blue. For me, it was a symbol of home, a signal everything was going to be all right. And I am proud to say that Blue Streak was the first roller coaster I rode at Cedar Point.

Blue Streak is the oldest roller coaster at Cedar Point; therefore, she is also seen as their leader. Everything about her is blue -- her eyes, her hair, her clothes -- except for a yellow ribbon around her neck. Blue's the go-to girl for everything, and is best friends with Subway, which often results in them working together (like in Heartcatch PreCure Paradise!).

The fun thing about Blue is that she can be adapted to any role. She's been a part of OFF/Track for a really long time, and any role I've thrown at her, she's conquered with insanity and gusto. She's extremely focused, and when she's in on a project, I know that she's going to deliver a consistent role. She slipped under the radar as Jennifer Graham in The Maristar Project (2006), and also delivered an excellent, humble performance as Tamaki Hideko in CyberLight (2006) -- although she was dead long before the first episode. Blue's most recent performances include a stint in The Tiger and the Lighthouse (2010), in which she plays the lead Jane Smith, and in Heartcatch PreCure Paradise! (2011), playing Yukishiro Haruna/Cure Poinsettia.

Blue is also very well known in the OFF/Track realm itself for her rather...oh, what's the word? Vibrant personality. Blue, like the Kings Island Racer, is a leader, but unlike Racer she loses her cool quite often. This stems from the OFF/Track storyline; Blue actually isn't really supposed to be leader of all her friends at Cedar Point, but gets put in charge a lot (like, all of the time), and she feels like she often doesn't have the authority to make the decisions she does. Therefore, she spazzes. A lot. This carries over to the way she handles her friends, especially those who are the D.V. Crew with her, although by virtue, Toby, Subway, and Mack understand. The only person she doesn't seem to spaz out in front of is Racer, because he naturally takes the lead, and she can relax.

(Flash that camera, Subway!)

Blue's catchphrase is a rally of sorts, used to get people's attention: "Guys..." (more talking) "Guys...?" (more talking) "GUYS!!!" (no more talking) And then, usually more yelling follows. It's kind of how Blue runs. When she gets yelled at for yelling, she tends to run away until someone (usually Subway) drags her back out.

Whenever I think of Blue, I think of Yanpeg, and Yasmean, I mean Jasmine, being stuck in a closet.

You'll also be happy to know that I can still name all of the current CP coaster.

And, I may not even need to say this, but: I'd rather ride a woodie.

A couple of clips from Yanpeg make it into "The Spaz of Blue Streak," and I'm planning on having another Yanpeg cameo later on. (I'll notify you of it when it happens.)

And YES! Nothing wrong with still saying it!
