090211 -- Come On, Adventure, Let's Go!
Sep. 2nd, 2011 04:10 pmI've actually been meaning to write on this for a while now, but I'm just now 'getting the chance' to. I've kind of been busy trying to do this packing thing, so it doesn't surprise me.
On my next to last day of work, I was doodling between calls, and I thought of a character who has recently come to mind a lot. This is the character I drew:

Now the fun starts: without clicking on the jump, can anybody guess who this character is? (Hints: he's from the LRPLI, and he's not normally a human. He's normally a squirrel!)
Given up yet? Of course you have. This *is* the LRPLI we're talking about XD Anybody other than me remember Fieldow Kadio, from Kadio & the Rockefella? I got lucky enough to come across this while I was cleaning:

Fieldow and Rocket from Caliar were the same character up until the fall of 2000; Rocket became the leader of Caliar, whereas Fieldow (whose name does come from Redwall, as I'm sure you can see in the above picture) became the leader of the slice-of-life Kadio (kuh-DEE-oh) and the Rockefella. To put it in a nutshell, K&R laid HUGE groundwork for the D.V.Crew. Two of the other members, Cheyanne Rabbit and Candy Kitten, provided the inspiration for the way Blue and Subway interact -- Subway basically has Cheyanne's voice; Candy's went even higher. (You don't want to think about it.)
The story of Fieldow Kadio is a simple one: the youngest of three kids who lived on a ship that traveled around the island of White Water, where all of our lovely furry friends live, including Rocket and the Cerulea Voyagers. When he was young, he fell off the ship in a storm, and was tossed a life preserver and floated to shore. (I was thirteen, okay?) Upon arriving in town he hung out at the local Burger Fender, playing a loaned guitar for cash. Eventually he met the Rockefella family, and twin hares Sammy and Taran, who took him in. Fieldow was always on the run from the local orphanage, insisting that no, he was NOT an orphan. He unofficially became a Rockefella and played in Sammy and Taran's band, later joined by Cheyanne and Candy, also both orphans. (What was I thinking when I was younger? I'm an orphan, he's an orphan, she's an orphan, we're all orphans, HEY!)
The finale of K&R involved Fieldow's older sister, Fern, finally finding him, and making contact with his family. Fieldow had a choice: to go back with his family on the boat, or to stay in the oceanside town with his new friends. The visual has him sitting on the couch in the Rockefella's, his new striped shirt in one hand, the old, tattered red stitched shirt from his younger days in his other. (The latter is the one he is always seen wearing -- see above.) Fieldow tries to choose between the two, but can't bring himself to do it. He is interrupted by Chasse, an old friend from the Burger Fender restaurant, who sees how distressed he is and asks why he can't choose both. From there, his family departs with a promise to return soon. (I keep thinking Fieldow lives in Reverie. That's where Rocket lives.)
I felt a lot like Fieldow when I was having to choose between staying here in Zanesville and going someplace -- anyplace -- and then I realized that, just like Chasse said, I could choose both. That doesn't mean I'm going to stay in Zanesville -- I've known since last year that I've needed to make this move -- but that doesn't mean I'll never come back. In Pondicherry, I set fire to the town because I needed to, in order to get me moving. I don't want any buildings to come back to. But if you read Pondicherry carefully, you'll see that there are no people in the story save for me and the fuzzballs helping me. Those bridges are not burned. If anything, Fieldow's story is the same as Rocket's for Pondicherry, because their inspirational source is the same place. (Pick up book six if you have no clue what I'm talking about. Then you'll meet the man -- and the squirrel -- who taught me how to write.)
So now, of course, K&R is footnoted as making a comeback. NO SERIOUSLY how much of a dork can I be. But I'm glad I haven't forgotten Fieldow, Cheyanne and Candy, Sammy and Taran, Richie, Billy and Chasse, and everybody else. (And now that just reminds me of Swamp Critters, no, no, NO.)
Thanks, Fieldow. :)
EDIT: lookit what I found! More pictures!
