031013 -- About Dvorak
Mar. 10th, 2013 01:22 pmWhile sitting at my temp job's computer, I was able to get into their system preferences and make it possible to change from one keyboard to another. Which means that I've been spending the last few days sitting at my receptionist position practicing my Dvorak, and while it doesn't match my QWERTY, it's certainly commendable enough. I'd say I'm at about average speed of what a lot of people at NaNo regularly do. (Heck, my fingers still feel really weird typing this in QWERTY right now. *switches* There. That's a little bit better, actually.
On my Grand Master List of things to do in 2013 is to complete NaNoWriMo in Dvorak. And I'd like to be able to be able to do that in April, free from any constraints and expectations of the great month we call November. This is also because I want to get as used to the Dvorak keyboard as possible before November, fully making the switch itself over. (That and September, in which I will be hopefully completing the 3-Day Novel Challenge, and if I can get over 103WPM in Dvorak by that time, that would be ASTOUNDING.)
So. What I will basically be doing is writing a book in Dvorak this April. And I need your help.
First of all, I need your help to make sure I stay on track and actually complete the entire thing in Dvorak. Since going over word count is not going to be an issue, I'm aiming squarely for the 50,000 mark. And because of this, I don't need my plot to be as tight as it usually is. I don't have to plan, so I'm not going to. Instead, I'm giving the planning over to you guys reading.
The way you'll be helping me stay on track is by suggesting where the plot goes next.
I'll be posting a chapter of the story every single day HERE on this blog. Of course, it'll get cross-posted to LJ (hello all LJ readers!) and the link for this blog will be posted on Twitter, Facebook, all my other hangouts. After reading the chapter, you may leave a comment below (or on Facebook or wherever you run into me) suggesting what should happen next. The sky will be the limit on what happens, though I'll have a few ground rules just to make sure the story keeps going and doesn't prematurely stop, say, on the eighth day. That would be bad. I'm supposed to complete NaNoWriMo, not have it die on me.
Is anybody immediately on Dreamwidth or LiveJournal interested in helping? Post below if you are. Anonymous comments should be on for both blogs. I do have a fair amount of interest from Facebook, and I'll be making a group for it here in the coming days so they can follow me there (but they can post comments here as well).
